The PCP for Public Transport Rail Operations Professionals(Rail) Station Managers (SMs) and Assistant Station Managers (ASMs) is offered by rail operators, SBS Transit Ltd (SBST) and SMRT Corporation Limited (SMRT). The programme aims to train Professionals, Managers, Executives and Technicians (PMETs) with the necessary competencies to embark on a career in the rail industry as Station Manager (SM), Assistant Station Manager (ASM), or Train Operations Officers (TOO).
About the Job & Career Progression
Besides managing the day-to-day operations at train stations and carrying out crowd control and incident management duties, SMs and ASMs are required to provide track protection, as well signal and control train services. They also play an increasingly important role in maintaining a high level of operational readiness to handle large-scale train service disruption incidents.
Additionally, to ensure there’s a trained first-responder in the driverless trains during train faults or emergencies, the rail operators have also started hiring more TOOs. The TOOs would be stationed within trains to provide commuters on board with assistance when necessary.
Together, SMs, ASMs, and TOOs play an increasingly important role in maintaining a high level of operational readiness to handle large-scale train service disruption incidents.
With relevant acquired experience and skills, TOOs may look forward to progressing and taking on more duties as ASMs. Subsequently, good performers may be picked to become SMs, Senior SMs or Chief SMs in charge of mentoring and sharing of knowledge through conducting training, service coaching and even auditing.
