What is CAP and Who is it for?
The Career Advisory Programme (CAP) is an introductory programme for professionals who provide or wish to provide career, skills and/or training advisory services as a secondary role in their work. Whether you are an HR Professional, People Manager, Educator, Social Service Officer, Industry Mentor, Career Consultant in educational institutes or employment agencies, or a Community Volunteer, CAP equips you with the foundational skills and confidence to provide meaningful career, skills and/or training advisory, and to conduct effective career conversations.
The 10 competencies* you will attain from CAP are:
- Interpret career development evolution and services that effectively support individuals
- Apply code of ethics to make ethical decision in career development
- Interpret career resource and labour market information to achieve career outcome
- Demonstrate helping skills to strengthen working alliance
- Apply career development theories to support meaningful career choices
- Utilise appropriate psychometric assessment for informed career decision-making
- Utilise career planning to achieve career goals
- Employ appropriate interventions to achieve career goals
- Employ technology to deliver career facilitation according to standard guidelines
- Adapt services to effectively support the evolving needs of the diverse workforce
*CAP curriculum has been refreshed with effect from May 2026 to reflect changes in the labour market, advancements in digital tools, and emerging areas such as career wellbeing, while strengthening practical application to better equip practitioners in supporting individuals in today’s dynamic work environment. Past CDF graduates will not be required to retake any modules but will be supported with resources to update your knowledge in line with the revised competencies.
There are two pathways to obtain the WSG Career Advisory Programme Certificate of Completion.
a) Training and Assessment Pathway:
You will undergo self-paced e-learning, followed by a half-day online learning checkpoint and a 1-day in-person classroom-based training, where you will have the opportunity to interact with the facilitator and other participants through role plays and discussions.
b) Assessment-Only Pathway (AOP):
The AOP recognises your knowledge and skills acquired through prior learning and work experience. It provides an option for you to attain the CAP certification directly through assessment without undergoing training.
