First eight satellite SGUnited Jobs and Skills Centres launched in first wave roll-out

Singapore, 21 June 2020 – From 1 July 2020, residents in Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Bukit Batok, Choa Chu Kang, Jurong West, Sengkang, Woodlands and Yishun will have easier access to career matching services and advice with the roll-out of the first wave of SGUnited Jobs and Skills Centres (SGUJSC). Minister for Manpower, Mrs Josephine Teo announced the roll-out of the SGUJSC today during a visit to Keat Hong Community Club, where an SGUJSC has been set up.

2          As the Government creates a wider range of opportunities for jobseekers through the SGUnited Jobs and Skills Package, these satellite career centres will bring those opportunities closer to jobseekers by providing information on jobs and training and helping them find the most suitable pathway based on their needs. The implementation of the SGUJSC supports the National Jobs Council’s efforts to mobilise the tripartite partners’ networks and schemes to maximise support for jobseekers and help them take full advantage of the scaled-up opportunities.

3          Working in close partnership with NTUC’s Employment and Employability Institute (e2i), and People’s Association (PA), Workforce Singapore (WSG) will set up the SGUJSC at selected Community Clubs and other suitable locations across all 24 HDB towns. The roll out of the SGUJSC will be done in three phases, with phases 2 and 3 slated for 1 Aug and 15 Aug respectively. Please refer to Annex A for the locations of the SGUJSC.

4          Jobseekers turning up at the SGUJSC will meet a WSG Career Ambassador who can provide career advisory and guidance on the SGUnited Jobs and Skills Package. They will also help those who require more in-depth and tailored career coaching services to make an appointment at the nearest career centre, i.e. WSG’s Careers Connect or NTUC’s e2i centres.

5          Close to 100 Career Ambassadors will be deployed across the 24 SGUJSC. To meet the increase in manpower needs, WSG will tap on various recruitment channels, including the SGUnited Jobs Initiative, to hire Career Ambassadors. Each newly hired Career Ambassador will undergo training to be equipped with the skills and competencies necessary to provide jobseekers with timely and relevant career advice.

6          An extension to the existing suite of Career Matching Services, the SGUJSC will help to temporarily boost the ground employment outreach and facilitation efforts, especially at community touchpoints. It complements the existing network of career services centres operated by WSG, NTUC’s e2i and WSG-appointed career matching partners, as well as Careers Connect On-the-Go (CCOTG). The latter will soon resume operations as the nation eases into Phase 2 of Singapore’s reopening, and deployment details will be made available when ready. Those who prefer to self-help can access the latest industry insights, labour market information and career profiling tools at their own convenience through MyCareersFuture. They can also browse jobs listed on the portal and tap on its smart search services to narrow their search to jobs that best fit their skillsets.

7          Jobseekers requiring career assistance are encouraged to tap on the expansive suite of Career Matching Services, which is tailored to help them gain greater clarity in their career direction, develop their careers, and be equipped with the tools to take advantage of new career opportunities.

 Annex A: Details of the SGUnited Jobs and Skills Centres (SGUJSC)

The following lists the locations and the towns in which the SGUJSCs will be rolled out in phases 1, 2 and 3 respectively.

As the 24^th HDB town, Tengah is still being developed, WSG is assessing and working with our partners to identify the location of the 24th SGUJSC. More details will be available closer to date.
