Introduction
Nippon Sanso Holdings Corporation, a global leader in industrial, electronic and medical gases with over 10,000 employees, transformed their HR capabilities through a job redesign exercise to better serve their workforce worldwide.
The Challenge
Fragmented local HR systems created operational bottlenecks. Task duplication in onboarding processes alone consumed up to 15% of the HR team's weekly workload, while inconsistent regional systems prevented economies of scale and uniform employee experiences globally.
The Solution
The company embarked on a three-year project to standardise HR processes through a shared technology platform, digitising operations across their global entities. They redesigned HR Manager roles to incorporate Human Resources Management Systems responsibilities, expanding beyond traditional administration into digital leadership. This transformation equipped their HR professionals with greater autonomy to drive and integrate strategic initiatives.
The Impact
The redesigned roles yielded significant results. HR evolved from an operational function to a strategic business partner, with personnel developing digital capabilities that drive organisational change. HR now collaborates directly with leadership on talent management and leadership development, becoming integral to organisational planning.
As Ms Pauline Loo, Senior Vice President & Regional Hub Head of Human Resources, noted: "Through Job Redesign, we embraced digitalisation to streamline our work processes, transforming our HR function into a strategic asset. This digital shift has enabled our HR team to spearhead our digital initiatives, boost people-centric productivity and deliver superior service to a more connected workforce."
